Laguna Seca
Laguna Seca
Painted in 2021, Laguna Seca reflects the full range of Hill’s late practice where gesture, color, and structure operate in constant exchange. The composition holds together through movement rather than symmetry, with passages of density opening into areas of light and release. Marks accumulate, dissolve, and reassert, allowing the surface to remain active without settling into resolution.
Presented here as a print, the work is translated to preserve the spatial depth and material presence of the original canvas. The restrained, exhibition-style format allows the composition to hold its ground, engaging directly with the surrounding space rather than receding from it.
